Player Spotlight: Ricky Wysocki – A Champion Built by Grit

Few names in disc golf carry the same weight as Ricky Wysocki. Known for his fierce competitive spirit, precision putting, and undeniable resilience, Wysocki has spent over a decade at the top of the sport. He’s not just a two-time world champion — he’s a symbol of what relentless dedication looks like in professional disc golf.

From the Baseball Diamond to the Fairway

Born in Brunswick, Ohio, Ricky Wysocki didn’t grow up dreaming of disc golf stardom. In his early years, his sport of choice was baseball, and he even played in the Little League World Series as a talented pitcher and infielder. That foundation in competitive athletics helped shape the work ethic and mental toughness he would later bring to disc golf.

As a teenager, a neighbor introduced him to the sport, and from his first throws, Wysocki felt the challenge and creative freedom disc golf offered. He began playing obsessively, rapidly developing the sidearm form that would become his signature. By the time he reached his late teens, his raw athleticism and pinpoint accuracy were turning heads in regional tournaments across the Midwest.

A Decade of Professional Dominance

Wysocki turned professional in 2010 and quickly made a name for himself. Within a few seasons, he was finishing on podiums at elite events and dueling with the likes of Paul McBeth in one of the most storied rivalries in disc golf history.

In 2016, after several close calls, Wysocki finally broke through and won his first PDGA World Championship — then followed it up with a second in 2017. These back-to-back world titles proved he could not only reach the mountaintop, but stay there. His performances were defined by laser-focused circle putting, fearlessly aggressive drives, and the kind of mental steadiness that wears down opponents over four grueling rounds.

Since then, Ricky has amassed over 130 career wins and built one of the most impressive resumes in disc golf history. With career earnings of over $830,000 and a PDGA rating consistently around 1050 or higher, he remains one of the most dangerous competitors on any card, any day, any course.

Comebacks, Setbacks, and the Sockibomb Era

Ricky’s career has not been without challenges. In 2019, he was diagnosed with Lyme disease, an invisible opponent that affected his stamina, mobility, and consistency. It forced him off tour temporarily and introduced a new layer of adversity to his professional life. But Wysocki fought back — training smarter, managing his health, and eventually returning to win multiple events and Player of the Year honors in the seasons that followed.

Off the course, Wysocki has built the “Sockibomb” brand into a fan-favorite identity, representing his aggressive playing style and confident attitude. His signature discs are staples in the bags of amateurs and pros alike, and his presence at clinics, charity events, and YouTube features has helped expand the sport’s visibility.

In 2025, Wysocki signed a major new contract with Discraft, marking a new chapter in his career. The move represents a fresh opportunity to shape his legacy and work closely with one of disc golf’s top manufacturers to develop new disc molds, mentoring systems, and branded events.

The Blueprint of a Champion

Ricky Wysocki’s success isn’t just about power or stats — it’s about mental toughness. He’s one of the most aggressive players in the game, known for running long putts, attacking wooded fairways, and never backing down in high-stakes moments. He thrives in pressure. He plays to win.

But he also brings balance — off-course positivity, resilience in the face of illness, and a humble appreciation for the fans who’ve supported him over the years. He’s helped grow disc golf into a legitimate global sport and continues to set the standard for professionalism and longevity.

Looking Ahead

Even after a decade of dominance, Ricky Wysocki is still evolving. With new discs in hand and another tour season underway, he remains a top contender at every event he enters. Younger players may be rising, but Ricky’s fire hasn’t dimmed — it’s just burning smarter.

At Skyzer Disc Golf, we see Wysocki not just as a player with stats, but as a builder of disc golf’s modern era. He’s a grinder, a risk-taker, and most of all, a believer in what’s possible when you put everything on the line — round after round.
